Ask Angela is a series the Foundation started to help answer some of the most common questions and offer some good pointers for those interested in continuing their education.

Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP)

ANSEP has a suite of opportunities for middle school, high school and college students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics degree programs and careers.

  • The ANSEP Middle School Academy is a two‐week, residential, science and engineering experience. Academy students build a top-end PC from scratch and earn the right to keep it by successfully completing Algebra 1 prior to eighth grade graduation.  Participating students also complete hands-on science and engineering projects in teams of three, live in the university residence halls, and experience what it is like to be a scientist or engineer. The Bristol Bay Foundation developed a strategic partnership with the ANSEP to support the Bristol Bay ANSEP Middle School Academy.

University of Alaska Southeast

University of Alaska Southeast operates from two locations in Juneau—Auke Bay and downtown Juneau. UAS also has a wide array of living options for all student types including first-year residence halls, apartment-style living, and family units.

  • Make sure to check out Native & Rural Student Center. NRSC provides Alaska Native students with a campus home base where they feel welcome. The NRSC allows them to observe role models, interact with peers, and receive encouragement and succeed in the UAS environment.
