Scholarship Program

All BBNC Shareholders and direct lineal descendants who seek it will achieve a post-secondary credential or degree.

The Bristol Bay Foundation is here to help you through the scholarship application process. We want you to succeed!

In order to partner with us, we encourage students to start their applications early and reach out to our staff with any questions.

How to Apply.

Sign in to your myBBNC account at myBBNC.net (do not enter “www”). If you do not have an account, register for one by clicking the “REGISTER” button and follow the instructions.

Click the BENEFITS section and select Bristol Bay Foundation.

Select either the Higher Education or Career Focused Vocational Education Scholarship Program Application Portal buttons.

Click Start Application for the selected program you wish you apply for.

BRISTOL BAY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Higher Education Scholarship Program

Higher Education Scholarship Program supports 4-year or advanced degree programs for Full- Part- or Under Part-Time students. Awards based on academic standing, leadership, and life experiences. The HE Scholarship Program will now have two deadlines each academic year. Fall & Spring Funding Deadline will remain in early April and Spring Funding Deadline will be in Early December. Next deadline is December 6, 2024 at 5PM AKST.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university enrolled in at least one three- five credit course.

  • Cumulative 2.0 grade point average or better.

BRISTOL BAY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Career-Focused Vocational Education (CFVE) Scholarship Program

Career-Focused Vocational Education Scholarship Program (CFVE) supports in-depth training for specific career-focused and long-term employment goals, such as professional piloting, maritime, cosmetology licensing, and industry trades. Next Deadline for CFVE be December 6, 2024 at 5PM AKST.

Upcoming CFVE Application Deadlines:

  • July 26, 2024 at 5PM AKST

  • December 6, 2024 at 5PM AKST

  • April 4, 2025 at 5PM AKST

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Enrolled or will enroll in a career-focused vocational program at an approved institution, program, provider, college, or university, as a full-time student or part-time student as defined by the institution or program

  • Cumulative 2.0 grade point average or better.

BRISTOL BAY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Ikayurgna Emergency Aid Program

Ikayurgna Emergency Aid Program is available once per academic year to currently enrolled (receiving a BBF scholarship) students to assist with pressing needs that might hinder a student’s ability to continue in their intended program. No deadline and dependent on funding availability.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • A current BBF Higher Education or CFVE scholarship recipient.

  • Enrolled in the semester in which you are seeking aid.

Named, Partner/Donor and Match Scholarship Programs

These scholarships, contingent upon funding availability, may not be guaranteed on an annual basis. Our scholarship committee awards these scholarships to outstanding students based on their respective requirements.

Frank W. Hill Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of the late Frank W. Hill, president of the BBNC Education Foundation Board of Directors from 1995-2007. He was a dedicated in the Lake & Peninsula School District teacher and later served as superintendent and co-director of the AFN Alaska Rural Systemic Initiative Program. He was a BBNC and Alaska Peninsula Corporation shareholder.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • Must have class standing of junior or senior or advanced degree candidate.

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in the education field in an accredited college or university.

  • Must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or better.

Marie Paul Pipiyaq Legacy Scholarship

Established in memory of the late Marie Paul, the Marie Paul Pipiyaq Legacy Scholarship Award was created to honor Marie’s exceptional attributes and contributions. This includes her strong commitment to education, deep respect for cultural heritage, and willingness to serve Bristol Bay with humility and kindness. It will be awarded to a student with junior/senior or advanced-level student standing.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • Must have class standing of junior or senior or advanced degree candidate.

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in the education field in an accredited college or university.

  • Must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or better.

H. Noble Dick Scholarship

Established by BBNC in memory of the late H. Noble Dick, BBNC president from 1980-1987, who served as the first controller in 1973, then became the vice president and finally President of the corporation. He received his BA in Accounting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and his MBA in finance from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  Prior to working with BBNC, Mr. Dick was involved in Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act activities including financial analysis the Congressional Act.

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant

  • Must have class standing of junior or senior or advanced degree candidate

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student with an accounting or business management major in an accredited college or university

  • Must have a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or better

Virginia Albert Sungca’ista Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of the late Virginia Albert, the Virginia Albert Memorial Sungca’ista Scholarship Award was created to honor Virginia’s influence that extended beyond her community of Egegik as a natural healer. In recognition of her legacy, this scholarship was established through a joint decision by the Becharof Board of Directors and the Bristol Bay Foundation. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting scholars with a passion for healing arts, traditional medicine, and healthcare fields. "Sungca’ista," is the Alutiiq term for midwife/healer/doctors.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a BBNC shareholder or direct lineal descendant.

  • Have a strong commitment to their education.

  • Have a declared major in a health-related field or a vocational pursuit in healing arts, midwifery, or related field.

  • Must be a full-time student.

    Note: This scholarship is open to all post-secondary educational pursuits.
